Mycology 101 Class with Sam Warren

Sam Warren is a citizen mycologist, Outdoor educator, and commercial mushroom forager from Almond, NY. Sam is certified in wild mushroom safety in 13 states as well as a NYSOGA licensed New York State hunting and hiking guide. His passion for mycology has found him leading forays, running workshops and speaking on panels at various mycology festivals across the North East. These classes will be limited in size so registration is required. First Class: begins with a short powerpoint that talks about some basic concepts of mycology and how mushrooms are used for our food, medicine, and ecosystems. We then look at lots of dried samples I’ve collected, pictures I’ve taken, notable species around the area, as well as examine spores and mycelium through a microscope. This series of programs  are funded by the Falconer Region Geographic Grant administered by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
